We birded along Yanallpa Creek, the narrowest and smallest creek that we traversed during our Amazon journey, the morning of Thursday, January 19, 2012. Brad photographed a Yellow-crested Tanager, Tachyphonus rufiventer, that was perched in a floodplain (várzea) area tree. The male has a blackish band across its yellowish-orange chest. Underparts, crest, and rump are a yellowish-orange color. Upperparts are blackish with a small white wing patch (see photo). Temperatures were in the upper 70's with clear skies and high humidity.
