After birding at Refugio de Vida Silvestre-Pantanos de Villa Marshes (Lima, Peru) the morning of Friday, January 13, 2012, we drove to a beach area near Club Garza Real to look for shore birds before driving to Pucusana. We saw this Yellow-hooded Blackbird, Chrysomus icterocephalus, perched in a distant marshy area adjacent to the beach. (This is the same photo as the "before" photo using increased magnification.) This male has a bright yellow hood on its otherwise black body. A feral population exists in the marshy areas around Lima. Temperatures were in the mid-80's with hazy skies and high humidity.
