We birded the area around our hotel, the Inkaterra Hotel Machu Picchu Pueblo (in Aguas Caliente), the morning of Tuesday, January 10, 2012. Brad photographed a Black Phoebe, Sayornis nigricans, as it perched on a rock along the edge of the rushing Vilcanota River. This mostly black flycatcher has a white belly, white undertail coverts and outer tail feathers. It regularly flicks its tail in a downward direction. Temperatures were in the 70's on this overcast morning with intermittent rain.
