Brad and I spent January 9, 2012, birding around our hotel, the Sonesta Posadas del Inca Sacred Valley, Yucay, (Urubamba) Peru. Brad photographed a Blue-and-Yellow Tanager, Thraupis bonariensis, as it perched in one the hotel's garden areas. This female is much duller and lighter in color than the male and is mostly a grayish-brown with a dusky blue tinge on the head and upperparts. The rump and underparts are a yellowish-buff color. Temperatures were in mid-70's on this lovely morning with partly cloudy skies.
