We birded the area around our hotel, the Inkaterra Hotel Machu Picchu Pueblo (in Aguas Caliente), the morning of Tuesday, January 10, 2012. This stunning Blue-necked Tanager, Tangara cyanicollis, was one of the birds that we photographed. The Blue-necked has a narrow black mask, blue head and neck, black chest, and dark purplish breast. Its wing coverts are a coppery color. Temperatures were in the 70's on this overcast morning with intermittent rain.
