I took this photograph of an ant swarm the morning of Wednesday, January 11, 2012, while we were birding the grounds of our hotel, the Inkaterra Hotel Machu Picchu Pueblo, in Aguas Caliente. We were walking along the Vilcanota River at the base of the Andes when we came upon this swarm crossing our path (we stayed out of their way!). It was a humid, sunny morning with temperatures in the upper 70's.
