Brad and I spent January 9, 2012, birding around our hotel, the Sonesta Posadas del Inca Sacred Valley, Yucay, (Urubamba) Peru. This llama, Lama glama, was tied to a clothesline behind one of the buildings on the property. Llamas are intelligent and, with several repetitions, can be taught simple tasks. The llama is used a meat source and pack animal. Their wool is soft and lanolin-free. With its ears held back, this individual was making 'mwa' sounds and may have been getting ready to spit to show its agitation. (We moved out of range.) Temperatures were in mid-70's on this lovely morning with partly cloudy skies.
