After a leisurely breakfast at our hotel, the Sonesta Hotel El Olivar located in the municipality of San Isidro (Lima, Peru), Joanne and I headed across the street to bird El Olivar Park. A fellow (Peruvian) birder pointed out this Harris's Hawk, Parabuteo unicinctus, that was perched in an olive tree in a quiet corner of the park. White upper tail coverts and whitish bases to the primaries are present in all plumages. Temperatures were in the low 80's on this hot and humid morning. Even though our Spanish isn't perfect, we managed to have an enjoyable birding experience with a fellow birder from the San Isidro area of Lima...someone who birded the park weekly.
