We left Yucay by bus early in the morning on Tuesday, January 10, 2012, for the train station in Ollantaytambo. This is an important halfway station between Cuzco and Machu Picchu. Here we caught the Hiram Bingham Train for a 1.5 hour ride that took us through the Sacred Valley of the Incas to Machu Picchu Pueblo (Aguas Calientes). We arrived after 8:00 AM and watched as our luggage was loaded onto a cart and pushed up a hill and across a bridge that led to our hotel, the Hotel Inkaterra Machu Picchu Pueblo. We relaxed in the reception area of the hotel and enjoyed a glass of iced tea while waiting to go to our rooms. This photo shows the hotel's reception area. We birded around the hotel until it was time for lunch at a local restaurant. Temperatures were in the upper 60's on this overcast morning with intermittent rain.
