Brad and I were birding in El Olivar Grove Park the morning of January 7, 2012, when we spotted this Long-tailed Mockingbird (Mimus longicaudatus) feeding in the grass. The park was declared a National Monument in 1959 to protect the centuries-old olive trees that grow there. Easy access to the park from our hotel, the Sonesta Hotel El Olivar (located in the municipality of San Isidro - Lima, Peru), facilitated birding there. This species' tail feathers are tipped in white. The harlequin face pattern, yellow iris, and spotted/streaked underparts are characteristic. Temperatures were in the low 80's on this hot and humid morning.
