Brad and I were birding in El Olivar Grove Park the morning of January 7, 2012, when we spotted a Pacific Parrotlet (Forpus coelestis) foraging in the grass. The park was declared a National Monument in 1959 to protect the centuries-old olive trees that grow there. Easy access to the park from our hotel, the Sonesta Hotel El Olivar (located in the municipality of San Isidro - Lima, Peru), facilitated birding there and provided good looks at some local bird species. This bird is probably part of Lima's feral population. The green upperpart plumage is washed with a light gray. Males have a powder blue colored nape, a striking cobalt rump, and blue patches on their wings. Temperatures were in the mid-80's on this hot and humid morning.
