We flew from Cuzco to Lima the morning of Thursday, January 12, 2012. After a leisurely lunch at our hotel, the Sonesta Hotel El Olivar located in the municipality of San Isidro (Lima, Peru), Joanne and I headed across the street to bird El Olivar Park. I photographed this colorful male Pacific Parrotlet, Forpus coeletis, as it perched in the late afternoon sunlight. Splashes of bright blue can be seen on the male's back and behind the eyes. Its green plumage is washed with light gray, especially on its upperparts. A powder-blue nape also adds to the array of colors along with the emerald green throat and crown. Lima has an established feral population of this species. Temperatures were in the 80's on this hot and humid day.
