During mid-afternoon on January 7, 2012, Brad and I took a city tour of Lima. After visiting the Plaza San Martin, we headed to the Plaza Mayor. The Plaza de Armas of Lima (Plaza Mayor) is the birthplace of the city of Lima. It is located in the Historic Center of Lima and is surrounded by the Government Palace, Cathedral of Lima, Archbishop's Palace (Palacio Arzobispal) of Lima, Municipal Palace, and the Palace of the Union. This photo shows the enormous hilltop cross, Cerro San Cristobal, which overlooks the Rimac River and can be seen for miles. Colorful local homes can be see lower down on San Cristobal as well as along this side street near the plaza and the Archbishop's Palace. The lamp posts and wooden balcony on the rightmost building provide a flavor of the area. Temperatures were in the upper 80's on this overcast, humid afternoon.
