Brad and I were birding in El Olivar Grove Park the morning of January 7, 2012, when we photographed a Rock Pigeon (Columba livia) near one of the park's water features. The park was declared a National Monument in 1959 to protect the centuries-old olive trees that grow there. Easy access to the park from our hotel, the Sonesta Hotel El Olivar (located in the municipality of San Isidro - Lima, Peru), facilitated birding there and provided good looks at some local bird species. Part of the park's feral Rock Pigeon population, this bird has striking red legs, feet, bill, and eye wattle which highlight its pure white plumage. Temperatures were in the mid-80's on this hot and humid morning.
