After an early breakfast on January 11, 2012, Brad and I spent several hours birding around our hotel, the Inkaterra Hotel Machu Picchu Pueblo, in Aguas Caliente. Set in twelve acres of terraced hills in the cloud forest of the Andes along the Vilcanota River, it was a lovely place to bird. I guess this Russet-crowned Warbler, Basileuterus coronatus, had other things on its mind than posing for a photo. Its olive colored upperparts, yellow underparts, and rufous-colored cap are visible. Unfortunately, its facial pattern (grey head with a black line through the eye and rufous cap outlined by black stripes) is not visible. We never got another chance to photograph this bird. It was a humid, sunny morning with temperatures in the upper 70's.
