I took this photograph of the Andean Mountains that bordered Vilcanota River behind our hotel, the Inkaterra Hotel Machu Picchu Pueblo, in Aguas Caliente, while we were out birding the morning of Wednesday, January 11, 2012. Set in twelve acres of terraced hills in the cloud forest of the Andes with the Vilcanota River running along one side, the hotel grounds were a lovely place to bird and view the local flora. Indigenous bromeliads were everywhere along the mountain sides. It was a humid, sunny morning with temperatures in the upper 70's.
