After an early breakfast on January 11, 2012, Brad and I spent several hours birding around our hotel, the Inkaterra Hotel Machu Picchu Pueblo, in Aguas Caliente. Set in twelve acres of terraced hills in the cloud forest of the Andes along the Vilcanota River, it was a lovely place to bird. A Sclater's Tyrannulet, Phyllomyias sclateri, with its dull olive-colored upperparts and two broad white wing bars, was just taking flight when Brad took its photo. Flanks have a pale yellow wash. The facial pattern is dominated by a pale supercilium. It was a humid, sunny morning with temperatures in the upper 70's.
