We birded the area around our hotel, the Inkaterra Hotel Machu Picchu Pueblo (in Aguas Caliente), the morning of Tuesday, January 10, 2012. Brad photographed a Silver-backed Tanager, Tangara viridicollis, that was perched in a tree near the rushing Vilcanota River. This species is omnivorous dining on both fruit and arthropods. It is one of the most sexual dichromatic members of the genus Tangara. This male appeared to be a dark, silvery blue-gray color with a pale orangish throat. Temperatures were in the 70's on this overcast morning with intermittent rain.
