I took this photograph of a Silver-backed Tanager, Tangara viridicollis, the morning of Wednesday, January 11, 2012, while we were birding the grounds of our hotel, the Inkaterra Hotel Machu Picchu Pueblo, in Aguas Caliente. The female has a light bronze-colored throat, dusky crown, green upperparts, and grayish underparts. This species is common in the Machu Picchu area and is found on both the eastern and western slopes of the Andes in Peru. It was a humid, sunny morning with temperatures in the upper 70's.
