We birded the area around our hotel, the Inkaterra Hotel Machu Picchu Pueblo (in Aguas Caliente), the morning of Tuesday, January 10, 2012. Brad photographed a Smoke-colored Pewee, Contopus fumigatus, that was perched in a tree near the rushing Vilcanota River. The Smoke-colored is a crested, large gray-colored bird. The mandible may be orange or dark brownish. Temperatures were in the 70's on this overcast morning with intermittent rain.
