I took this photograph of a Torrent Tyrannulet, Serpophaga cinerea, the morning of Wednesday, January 11, 2012, while we were birding the grounds of our hotel, the Inkaterra Hotel Machu Picchu Pueblo, in Aguas Caliente. We were walking along the Vilcanota River at the base of the Andes when we spotted this bird in its river-edge habitat. It is an all gray bird with black wings, head, and tail. Two prominent white wing bars are present. The bird frequently flicks its tail in an upward direction. It was a humid, sunny morning with temperatures in the upper 70's.
