After a leisurely breakfast at our hotel, the Sonesta Hotel El Olivar located in the municipality of San Isidro (Lima, Peru), Joanne and I headed across the street to bird El Olivar Park. I took this photograph of a Sooty Morph of the Vermilion Flycatcher, Pyrocephalus rubinus obscurus, as it perched nearby. Roughly half of the Vermilion Flycatcher population in and around Lima consists of the Sooty Morph. It was a treat to see a wide variety of color variation (M/F adults, juveniles, and sooties) in such a small area. Temperatures were in the low 80's on this hot and humid morning.
