After a leisurely breakfast at our hotel, the Sonesta Hotel El Olivar located in the municipality of San Isidro (Lima, Peru), Brad and I headed across the street to bird El Olivar Park. A West Peruvian Dove, Zenaida meloda, with an indigo-blue colored patch of featherless skin surrounding each brown eye, is shown perched on a nearby railing. Its bold white wing patch (seen here) appears as a brilliant white crescent when the bird is in flight. Adults have red legs and feet. The species is a conspicuous member of Lima's urban avifauna.
