Brad and I spent January 9, 2012, birding around our hotel, the Sonesta Posadas del Inca Sacred Valley, Yucay, (Urubamba) Peru. We enjoyed watching and photographing a White-crested Elaenia, Elaenia albiceps, as it flitted from tree to tree. This small elaenia typically has a well developed white crown patch. Underparts are whitish with a yellowish wash on the undertail coverts and flanks. The chest has a pale olive tinge. Upperparts are a grayish-brown. Two white wing bars are present. Temperatures were in mid-70's on this lovely morning with partly cloudy skies. These White-crested Elaenia photos are an interesting study on the effects lighting has on the bird's appearance.
