This photograph was taken from the deck of the Aleksey Maryshev as we cruised near the the west coast of the island of Hoy. The island of Hoy is located in the south-western part of Orkney, Scotland. The Old Man of Hoy is a 137 meter sea stack of red sandstone perched on a plinth of igneous basalt. It is projected to be approximately 400 years old and may not be standing much longer due to the effects of erosion. Temperatures were in the mid-60's on this partly cloudy to sunny evening.
