This is a photograph of the Earl's Palace in Kirkwall on Mainland Orkney. This palace is agreed to have been the finest Renaissance building in Scotland. One can appreciate its grandeur even though its upper floors are roofless. After 1688 the palace was no longer used and gradually deteriorated to its current state. The weather was pleasant with temperatures in the high 60's.
