This is a photograph of a dry wall near the Iron Age ruins found in Jarlshof. The picture typifies the type of rock wall construction that we saw in use throughout the Scottish Isles. If you look closely, you will see an Eurasian Blackbird sitting among the rocks. Birds make use of the spaces between the rocks to roost and/or nest. The Broch on Mousa served a similar function for Storm Petrels, Guillemonts, and Rock Pipets. Temperatures were in the mid-50's on this partly cloudy to rainy morning.
