During the night of August 3, 2010, we sailed in the Barents Sea and headed for the southeastern corner of the massive Nordauslandet Ice Cap arriving there during the morning of August 4th. We took this photograph of an Arctic Rainbow, our name for the phenomenon, from the stern of the ship. The ice cap, the third largest in the world, can be seen on the horizon. The Antarctica ice sheet is the largest and covers about 98% of the Antarctic continent followed by the Greenland ice sheet (Kalaallisut: Sermersuaq), which covers roughly 80% of the surface of Greenland. Temperatures were in the low 30's with partly cloudy skies with intermittent light to heavy fog.
