After dinner on August 6, 2010, our Captain brought the ship in close to Kapp Fanshawe where Lomfjorden flows into Hinlopenstretet. The evening weather was beautiful with clear skies and temperatures in the mid-50's. Brad took this closeup photograph of a Glaucous Gull eating a baby murre as it dined near the dolomite spires and imposing cliff faces of Kapp Fanshawe. These cliffs are home to thousands of nesting sea birds, the most numerous being the Brunnich's Guillemot or Thick-billed Murre. Glaucous Gulls, Larus hyperboreus, are omnivorous and feed on fish, insects, molluscs, starfish, offal, scraps, eggs, small birds, small mammals and carrion as well as seeds, berries and grain.
