Before our Lindblad city tour of Oslo, Brad and I walked around the grounds of the Royal Palace and Gardens, Akershus Castle, and the National Theater. Brad photographed me sitting in front of the Pointing Glove, a sculpture designed by Wenche Gulbransen. In 1624 the old town of Oslo burned. The Danish king, Christian IV, supposedly waved his glove at this site to indicate where the new town of Christiania should be built. Christian's words were, "You shall build it exactly here!" So here Christiania was built as a new center with squares and straight streets. Today, the monument lies in a square right in the middle of traffic with cars zooming by and almost running over my toes. Citizens of Oslo I accept your apology...the monument is in an undesirable location. Temperatures were in the low 70's with partly cloudy skies.
