After breakfast on August 5, Brad photographed me standing on the Spa Deck (aft). We had reached our most northerly location, 80° 54’ north, just before 0600 that morning and were heading south to the island of Storøya, a 50 square kilometer sized island. The southern half of Storøya is covered by a cold-based ice cap, while the remaining part (22 square kilometers) is non-glaciated. The area belongs to the Northeast Svalbard Nature Reserve. Arctic Terns breed here. Temperatures were in the low 30's on this cloudy morning.
