This is a photograph of our ship, the National Geographic Explorer, moored in the harbor in Longyearbyen. We took Zodiacs out to the ship in order to board (our luggage was loaded on earlier). The National Geographic Explorer is a state-of-the-art expedition ship that was built in 1982 and refurbished in 2008. It is a fully stabilized, ice-class vessel, which enables it to navigate polar passages. It carries kayaks and a fleet of Zodiac landing craft. Temperatures were in the 40's with partly cloudy skies.
