We disembarked the National Geographic Explorer after breakfast on August 8, 2010, and boarded buses for a final tour of Longyearbyen. This is a photograph of a Svalbard Reindeer that we saw from our bus. The Svalbard Reindeer is a small subspecies of Rangifer tarandus and is exclusive to the area. They are short-legged and have relatively short, round heads with a coat that is brown on the back and light on the belly. Temperatures were in the low 50's on this cloudy morning.
