We had an early breakfast on Saturday, July 31, 2010, at our hotel, First Hotel Bergen, in Bergen, Norway. Afterwards, we took a cab to the airport and flew to Oslo. Here we were met by the Lindblad Expedition Staff and bussed with other members of the Svalbard group to our hotel, the Radisson Blu Scandinavia Hotel, near the Royal Palace. This is a photograph of the Royal Palace (Det Kongelige Slott) with a statue of King Karl Johan in front of it that we took while on our way to bird in the Slottsparken, the Castle Park which surrounds the Royal Palace. The palace is located on a rise, the Bellevue, at one end of Oslo’s main thoroughfare, Karl Johans Gate. King Harald is the current reigning monarch and has a separate residence. Temperatures were in the low 70's with partly cloudy skies.
