We sailed in a northeasterly direction from Nordaustlandet to Kvitøya, Svalbard's fifth largest island. The island is almost completely covered in ice and is almost always surrounded by pack ice. The fog was thick, too thick to make a Zodiac landing, so we spent the afternoon listening to lectures on Polar Bears while relaxing and snoozing in our room. After dinner, we went up to the bridge area to watch for Polar Bears on the pack ice. This photograph was taken near the ship's map room and shows some of the pack ice as our ship maneuvered through it. Temperatures were near or below freezing with heavy fog.
