After a two hour flight from Oslo, we arrived in Longyearbyen in the Svalbard Archipelago. Svalbard is located north of mainland Europe and the Arctic Circle, about midway between mainland Norway and the North Pole. Latitude and Longitude readings of Longyearbyen are 78° 15'N and 15° 30'E, respectively. Distances to various cities are given in kilometers. Temperatures were in the high 40's with partly cloudy skies.
