Early in the afternoon on August 2, 2010, we made a Zodiac landing on the beach at Gnålodden in southern Wedel Jarlsberg Land. We hiked around the area for over two hours and stopped to photograph a small area of the tundra showing the flora with some unopened Drooping Saxifrage (Saxifraga cernua) plants, lichen covered rocks, and soil anchored by other tundra growing foliage. This was a spectacular microcosm of life on the tundra. Temperatures were in the lower 40's with partly cloudy skies.
