Our goal the morning of Friday, January 20, 2012, was to set foot on terra firma for some birding on solid ground. This sign greeted us as we landed at the village of El Tucan which is located about fifteen minutes above the town of Nauta on the Rio Maraņon. We were at a private reserve, and the sign reminds one not to cut down any (medicinal) trees. Temperatures were in the mid-70's with overcast skies and high humidity.
