We were in line waiting to check in at Francisco Secada Vignetta International Airport in Iquitos for our flight to Lima when someone (hope he wasn't on our plane) displayed this large insect. The gentleman said it was a river roach that he caught on the Orinco River. Guess he was carrying....hmmm...it in his pocket. He was even nice enough to hold it up so I could photograph it. After looking at specimens on the web, I think what he showed me was some type of beetle and not a cockroach.
